San Fran and Santa Cruz
Leila and I took a much anticipated trip up the beautiful Bay (always uncharacteristically warm and sunny when we're there) to visit Auntie Bobbi in San Francisco and Auntie Brooke in Santa Cruz. We had a most amazing time. Check it out...

Leila's first bus trip... the good ol' 22 that mommy used to travel. Some day I'll tell her about the crazy adventures I had on that bus line, like when a fight broke out on the bus and the driver abruptly stopped and shouted, "we can call the police, sit here for an hour while we wait for the police, or work this out now" (and promptly busted out some dramatic karate air chops), "I trained with Jackie Chan" (more dramatic karate air chops).
We strolled down Haight St., admired all things freaky and fun, giggled and made wishes...
We meandered through the freak to Golden Gate Park where I was propositioned to buy some ganja... made me feel young and hip (or maybe old and stressed and in desperate need of something green)... and then we moved on to a magnificent playground where Leila delighted in climbing to new heights and greeting new peeps. (See her below? She's a little speck on this playset.)
And check out this rad swingset, with what I told her was a special spaceship swing. Below, Auntie Bobbi and Leila swing like wild things...
Proof of wild was tagged on the equipment....
And how could she not take a ride on the giant sea turtle...
But the highlight of the tour de Haight was most definitely the salon pedicure...
Intensely focused on her toes, Leila did not move for at least 20 minutes other than to occasionally look at us and smile with pure bliss and pride.

Pretty in pink (sparkly pink, but of course)...
And then, there was Santa Cruz. She was hesitant at first, but then charged the shoreline like a beach zealot.
A moment of frozen drama as a wave begins to roll toward her...
"Sunshine" before the sunset...
An afternoon stroll in the neighborhood...
Leila took great delight in feeding "Baby Jack" his breakfast...
Leila took much more delight in devouring her very first ice cream cone, which was special indeed. "Ice cream man" Zach served up a scoop of the Penny's exquisite artisan ice cream flavors for Miss Leila. She chose chocolate hazlenut raisin in a homemade waffle cone. I chose Earl Gray. It was scrumptious. And I think it actually beat out the pedicure in terms of her favorite activity for the weekend.
Below is the enormous slide at Blue Ball Park in Santa Cruz. Last year, Leila was petrified of this playground. This year, she took it by storm and slid down the monster slide like a pro.
Leila, with the Hassett girls, in a log, at Blue Ball Park. FUN!
