Well, after a long trek, we've finally arrived in Athens, GA and it's absolutely lovely. The journey began with farewells to our DC family of friends (you'll see pictures from a fine event at the Townhouse Tavern) and then we started loading up our moving cubes (pictures document the leisurely moments of the not-so-leisurely activity). We filled the Volvo to the brim and carefully placed Leila in the middle of it all, and off we went... slowly... through DC traffic (good riddance!) to Raleigh, NC for three nights with the Woodards -- Uncle Kris, Aunt Heather and Hula and Dexter too. We had a wonderful visit -- not only did Leila enjoy hugs and kisses from her aunt and uncle, but from Hula (the dog) too. We also made a visit to Katy's new house and David brushed up on his ping-pong skills. Then we were off again, on the final 360 mile leg of the journey. Leila might have wished her time in the car was about 25 miles shorter (she had a bit of a meltdown, but had been a pretty good traveler up until then). So here we are. It's been a busy week and we're almost settled in. The neighborhood is charming and full of tall, graceful trees and friendly folk. Let us know if you'd like to come for a visit.
As for the Leila update... she's almost three months old and getting sweeter by the day. She's very curious and loves gazing up at her verdant new tree-filled environment. Her hand-eye coordination is much improved and as of our arrival here, she's taken quite a liking to her thumb. It seems that her thumb-sucking is helping her become a better sleeper too. She continues to expand her vocabulary of coos and gurgles and squeaks and has even gushed her first full round of laughter. Watching her grow is such a delight.
