Vernal Pools

There were so many hilarious and delightful moments along today's guided tour through the James K. Herbert Wetland Prairie Preserve's vernal pools. The pools were really, really fascinating, and I can still say that despite being out of ear shot for 90% of our biologist guide's tour. I was too busy watching Leila pick fistfuls of wildflowers, commune with the cows, tromp ever-so-confidently on rough terrain and follow the big girls around a prairie of flower-ringed pools and cow paddies. Our hike was followed by a delightful picnic at a nearby park to celebrate Amber's birthday. It was a truly spectacular day!
